My hair has always been thick..and was never really unmanageable..but I have been putting in relaxers for years now..and I am just so tired of it all. I am now letting the relaxer grow out of my head...but what really can I do with all this "new growth" What should I be putting in my head..and what shouldn't go in my head? I have washed my hair, braided it wet..and worn it crinkly like but I need other things to do with it...Any help you can give me to make this transition a lot easier.

Consider cutting it very short and wearing big hoop earrings.
It looks very ethnic and quite beautiful I think and is SO EASY to take care of.

I think that girls with African hair look cute when they get the corn rows, sort of like Alicia Keyes. I think that absolutely looks cute.

Well.........i think that..........you should give your hair alot of care now that its not under relaxtion.........give a lots of treats for about a month or so..........like oils , greases,,,,,moistrisure(how ever i spell it)
textrizures......and leave in conditioner .....will make it go really natural .....curly if anything.....but pretty curls!
good luck with everything

If you want to go back natural you'll have to cut your hair until you get to the new growth. There's no way to stop the ends of your hair from being permed, though you could just wash your hair and it would be more natural. If you do choose to cut your hair, try to keep heat out of it, eat a healthier diet, and get a regular trim to help it grow faster.

I'm an African American with very thick textured hair. I stopped relaxing my hair over 10 years ago. The texture of my hair has improved since I stopped getting relaxors; I think the perms actually make it worse. I do lots of things with my hair. I wear it twisted, I wear it in curly up-dos, and when I blow dry and flat iron it, it looks like it's been permed. Don't give up; I did have to go through some difficult struggles and ugly styles but my hair is very long and healthy and I like the versatility. Be blessed!

Use some Doctor Miracle hair oil. And as you let your hair grow out just press it, the Doctor Miracle has a whole line of product's that can help you. Once you wash with it and oil with it, press it and it will get straight. After, ever night wrap it up and style as u please the next morning.....P.S. let me know if it works for you.

I've been wearing my hair natural for about 11 years now and feel so free. I don't keep it longer than past my shoulders. Sometimes I press it out with a flat iron, I wear different braid styles, but most of the time I just wear a head band and let it go free. Don't put any type of harsh chemicals on your hair. Some people put a texturizer in, but again this is very similar to a relaxer and can do just as much damage. Try to stay away from coloring it as well, as coloring strips natural moisturizers from your hair and causes breakeage and split ends. I gotta tell you, in the beginning, its difficult because you're just not used to it, but its well worth it.

I relaxed my hair for 4 years. Finally, I felt that I wasn't myself in my hair. I was worried about the future, and the hassels of trying to straighten it. Now, my curly hair is growing out healthy and beautiful. Once it gets long enough, cut all that relaxed frazzled hair off! Aveda products are the best to use. They have a curl line, plus it's all natural! Buy a diffuser. It will keep the curl and reduce the puff. Use a pomade. It keeps your hair from drying out. See a Aveda stylist at least once a year, since it isn't cheap, but it works the best. Trust me, I've tried everything! I use Aveda, and in a year or so, I can cut off my relaxed hair. Who needs straight hair, anyway? Show off your hair! Don't braid it. Just use a diffuser, and do whatever the Aveda stylist says. They know what's best!

You could wash and braid your hair (extensions) until your hair gets long enough to cut.
If you are growing it, another option would be to wear a stylish wig or ponytail or weave while it's growing out if you don't want to wear the in between look. Keep the roots soft by moisturizing your hair when you shampoo with Pantene for women of color.
A friend of mine shaves her head nearly bald. It's looks bald from far away, but up close, there is a light shadow of hair. She's beautiful and stylish, and carries it off well. She wears dainty little post earrings and walks very confidently with her style. She has strong sex appeal, and attracts lots of guys with her look.
She's had the look for seven years.
